About Dan & Family, Plus AOG’s Publication Journey
An Intriguing Video on the Series & Spinoffs

Thanks for considering Ancient of Genes (AOG). Fellow Catholic parents likely need this resource to subtly nudge fallen-away Catholics to the Church or create curiosity to open the discussion again. But you did not tell them about this page, they’d likely never learn of it! So, please copy the URL in the browser window above & paste it into to a Catholic social media; let others at least learn about it. Please: someone really needs this.

You have searched — perhaps in tears at times — for a resource that would get read & move your fallen-away or “cafeteria Catholic” loved one. Apologetics & other Catholic literature don’t get read; don’t open the conversation. If you patiently to read the  material below, you will discover how it is that AOG, will almost certainly get avidly read & cause your loved-one or friend to engage again. He/she will ponder — then engage with you — questions that lead him/her to reconsider The Faith: AOG prompts readers to wrestle with proven miracles (the Incorruptibles, apparitions) and issues like the morals/ethics of Genetic Engineering, God’s loving pursuit of each of us, the Sanctity of Human Life — as discoveries rather than preaching. Try AOG and tell friends. You and your loved-ones are in our prayers!

A geneticist’s regeneration of Ice Age animals & humans is stolen and becomes the basis for genetic weapons that can trigger what appears to be the prophesied Resurrection of the Dead.

AOG is based on real genetics and the only prophecy held, in one form or another, in common among nearly all religions & myth traditions. Protagonist Kevin Harrigan, PhD, is a fallen-away Catholic who slowly returns after sixteen+ years. Harrigan defeats his pride to

1. offer his life to repent of work that built toward a man-made – hence imperfect – regeneration of Eden, and

2. thwart antagonist Ismail Mon’s perversion of his work into genetic weapons of mass destruction.

AOG’s Catholic perspective is subtle in order to intrigue readers – fallen-away and of all leanings – to consider God’s pursuit of each of us, the Church, and the Sanctity of Human Life. Drama and realism further spark curiosity – without preaching – about other key issues: genetic engineering, Marian apparitions, intercession, the Incorruptibles, the Real Presence & more. That curiosity prompts the reader to investigate further & reject Leftist errors. Investigation leads to openness, even renewed engagement with estranged or unappreciated parents.

Buy AOG’s eBook, Audio Theater, paperback, or hardcover for yourself or as a resource to gift to friends/loved-ones. AOG really can SELF-PROMPT or self-motivate consideration of the Church that Jesus Himself founded & sent His Spirit to protect (as to Magisterial teachings) despite some scandalous leaders

Details, details! Read how AOG accomplishes this through its two-fold premise (1. A. & B.) and its quality as literature (2. A. & B.).

1. Ancient of Genes’ two-fold premise has proven to fascinate people of any and no faith:
A. It really is true that the only not-yet-occurred prophecy that’s in-common, in some form, among almost all religions & faith traditions is this: a New Eden after a cataclysm. Ponder that odd fact! But, if that’s both physical and spiritual, what physical mechanism could manifest it?
B. Genetics has recently shown that the genes of all species — but especially humans — lengthen, generation after generation. Traits get archived (coded to be dormant) yet can express. These traits include thousands of personality genes. The only way to re-express those traits — markers for unique ancestors – is by random error or by using a virus that has within it RNA capable of activating these genes. It would re-code those genes to cease dormancy and start expressing, the oldest & weakest dormancy bonds first. Currently, there are no viruses that target meiotic material (egg & sperm). But we know that viruses CAN target certain types of tissue; it’s a matter of time before egg & sperm can be targeted for insertion of new instructions. But think about this: The ability to change future generations’ genomes (as distinct from a single baby) has scary, real implications: The potential to hamper peoples’ ability to defend against an enemy’s people (whose progeny were coded to be superior in strength, intelligence, lifespan, etc.) gives rise to a fearsome genetic weapon!

2. We have discovered that most folks, regardless of taste in entertainment, rave about Ancient of Genes!
A. Fiction AND nonfiction buyers and critique groups — even folks who rarely read — are nearly unanimous: AOG is well written, a true pleasure to read or hear. A very wide range of people have praised AOG. Check reader & pro reviews). Its science and metaphysics are so plausible, its romance and conflicts so realistic (yet not gratuitous), and its pace so accelerating, that even non-readers express surprise!
B. Ancient of Genes has been improved in literary quality during the 27 years since its prior version, The Pleistocene Redemption (TPR). AOG is half of TPR’s word count. Yet AOG retains what readers loved about TPR, which sold many-thousands-in the 15 months that TPR was marketed.

To recap: Ancient of Genes causes readers to investigate certain curiosities in the story. This can start conversations — despite strained relations. Your loved-ones will begin to conclude that the Church has infinite worth, and that you are a resource for this journey, too.

Important:  Please spread the word. Consider AOG for a book discussion group; include your loved-one! Please remember to mention its Catholicity only in Catholic venues. That will limit “sabotage” ratings & reviews. Please recommend, rate/review, and gift Ancient of Genes! Publish the website address AncientOfGenes.com on secular venues (examples of these venues include BookBub.com, GoodReads.com, etc.). But post AuthorDan.com/aog for your Catholic friends and on Catholic social media. That way, people who resist (or even hate) Catholic resources will arrive at the secular version of this we page; it will not be obvious to Catholicism-haters that AOG is a “stealth” Catholic novel. Faithful Catholics will see AuthorDan.com/aog; secular readers will visit the page designed for them, AncientOfGenes.com.

Starting in the late 1970s, Dr. Bernard Nathanson began his journey toward Catholicism and away from his NY chain of abortion clinics. He became a crusader for the Faith and Respect for the Sanctity of Human Life. Since his death from cancer in 2011, he no-doubt rests in Christ from his inspired labors.  Click here to see original notes of just two of many original endorsements of the 1997 edition of The Pleistocene Redemption, now improved and titled Ancient of Genes.

“With skill, wit, and humor, Gallagher deftly propels readers. This pleasurable tale is hauntingly profound. Accelerating powerfully within natural and supernatural realms, it enthralls, consoles, and terrifies. This important thriller melds espionage, biotechnology, spiritual challenge, prehistoric adventure, and more. A compelling and meaningful experience joining the ranks of Shelley’s Frankenstein, Huxley’s Brave New World, and Miller’s A Canticle for Leibowitz.”
– Russell E. Smith, STD, KHS, Past President, The Pope John Center for Bioethics

“Few science fiction writers also possess sufficient expertise in the religious and ethical fields to provide the balance necessary for a thoroughly compelling narrative. Dan Gallagher is an exception…. [The] climax, containing one of the finest action sequences in recent fiction, approaches apocalyptic dimensions…. While Michael Crichton’s Jurassic stories were interesting…, Gallagher ups the ante dramatically and intellectually. His spiritual and ethical probing of characters and situations is also relentless as the escalating peril… reaches catastrophic dimensions….An extraordinary work….”
– Richard J. Woods, O.P., author of Mysticism Prophecy, The Devil, and fiction works

“Intellectual… timely…, and a most entertaining story…. A gripping science fiction…. Research, plot & character development, and intrigue are extraordinary…. In refreshing opposition to the chaos-deterministic theme of Jurassic Park and the neopaganism of The Celestine Prophecy.… I had a difficult time setting this fine work down and heartily commend it to the thoughtful reader.”
– J. F. Bierlein, author of Parallel Myths

AOG’s history: Dan researched and wrote TPR in 1996. It was in print at 148,000 words from 1998-2000 and sold 4,080 copies net of modest returns. TPR received twenty-six rave professional reviews and two “slams.” TPR was controversial, so reader reviews were either great or bad; few in-between. I related my “Catholic purpose” to a Publisher’s Weekly editor in 1997. She abruptly exited the room; a slam review soon followed! This is one of many examples of “the world’s” resistance to (even “sabotage” of) my work. At least Ancient of Genes is less obviously Catholic in nature, and so more effective at involving fallen-away readers.

TPR was improved in several iterations. In 2014, agent Bill Pettit did achieve a screenplay re-submission invitation from Paramount’s Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who loved the very unique story line (contrary to cynical adage that there are no new story lines).

All of these works are connected and based soundly in genetic fact and cryptozoological evidence–scary! “Crypto” means hidden, rare, claimed extant, and these animals are “cryptids.”

Readers also enjoy AOG’s spinoff short story pairs (one set in ancient times, one in the near future). These mysteriously connected pairs act like chapters, building into Ancient to Light (ATL). ATL is AOG’s in-progress sequel, an anthology progressing to the Parousia. In ATL, light is a major motif that mysteriously enriches and further builds the Ancient Beacon trilogy. This trilogy ends with Ancient to Eternal (ATE), which paints humanity as beings of physical yet spiritual light, serving God by shepherding His new creation.

Dan does not believe that the Resurrection will be triggered by human action. Ancient of Genes paints a scenario in which the protagonist’s genetic process, Fossil Gene Redemption (FGR), is highjacked by an antichrist. That antichrist would pervert & use FGR to appear to be God… and subjugate the world. Nothing about Dan’s works operates to diminish or contradict Church teaching.
